Default 2010 ADR versus Fusion Cost Comparison

Here is a link to a Texas Back study presented this year at the SAS10 Conference. It shows that fusion is generally 50% more expensive than ADR for one or two levels. This is based on a small, but very carefully chosen set of patients. I am trying to get the full report, but based on the information in the summary, I believe the data is very relevant and plan to reference it in my insurance appeal.

Thanks for this! I'll send it in as well, maybe they'll notice it and ok my ADR.

Pain in the neck among other places!
Multiple spinal surgeries (10) beginning in 1982. Fusion L4-5 (1992), Dyneses rods after stenosis surgery L3-5 (2006). Fusion C6-7 (1993) and C5-6 (1999), Foraminotomy C4-5 (2008). Current problem L5-S1. MRI doesn't see anything, but the pain is consisitent to L5-S1.

Interesting !! I just had a TDR and Fusion the total billed was $ 118,773.00. The breakdown showes the TDR being the most expensive item. This wouldn't match their findings. Which baffles me since I had surgery at TBI !!??
    Again very interesting.
