    Default Artificial Disc replacement

    Hi,

I'm a 37 year old female with a severe C5-6 disc herniation with spinal cord compression. My symptoms are severe neck- and shoulder pain, tingling and numbness in my arm and loss of sensation in my thumb and index finger. I am scheduled for an anterior cervical disc replacement (Prodisc) next week. I am looking forward to it since I am hoping that surgery will remove most of my symptoms. I am not expecting total recovery but if I can get some of my pain under control and regain feeling in my fingers, I would be over joyed! Well, I am finding many interesting post on this forum and that is what made me want to sign up as a member. Good luck to all of you and probably will talk to some of you on the forum at one point or another. Thanks.

    Hi lolenona,

Welcome to the Spine Patient Society.

What day is your Cervical ProDisc surgery next week? I do hope the operation is able to help with your symptoms. I remember waking up after my 2-level lumbar artificial disc replacement surgery (ProDisc) without the severe leg pain that plagued me pre-operatively--it was such an incredible feeling!

Please keep us posted, as we do care!

Welcome to the forum! It is definitely mixed emotions going into a surgery like that, one part of you is ready for it to be done and be better and the other is nervous about having major surgery. It is an amazing feeling having your old pain gone and so worth the surgery. Take it slow and easy, as you only get 1 chance to heal right. I had a c3-c6 replacement in Germany last Nov. I had pain in my neck, shoulders, hand & arm. Lost all strength in my right arm- couldn't even hold a fork. Finally out of pain last month. Now I'm back to playing tennis (not nearly as well), working out 3x/wk & doing yoga 3x/wk. I never thought I would get better- but I did! Good luck!
