    Exclamation Dr Pimenta Response

    Well

Dr Pimenta finally responded after manyl emails.

    Gilbert,

I got his review over your exams. Apparently a 3 levels degenerated discs L4-5; L3-4; L2-3 that would need surgery.
Just by looking to the exams and not seeing you is hard to tell what to do, but it seems that he could be performing a TDR at L2-3 and another L4-5 but fusion at L3-4.
The best way now for you to plan what to do is to contact him directly at his e-mail: and plan the appointment with him.

He never mention my L5-S1 which would need a fusion? I sent him a email with many questions

    I am getting closer

    Gil

Progress finally? I agree it's odd L5/S1 isn't mentioned. I hope you find your solution to your pain.

Gil, I'm so pleased that you finally got an answer.

As to the different levels, he had a completely different opinion about treatment than every other surgeon with whom I consulted. Plus his strategy changed from the first consult I had over the phone to the actual surgery, especially after he met me in person. The good thing is that the price didn't change, even for more work/extra time in the hospital

I hope you hear good things that will give you some hope.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Oh, and I learned to only ask one or two questions per email More than that, and I didn't get the response I hoped for...send a second one a day or two later, and you get more answers, or at least that's the way it seemed to work best for me.

But that's the way it was with almost every surgeon, when I think back.

    Gil,

Hurray!!! At least you are getting somewhere, although the process can be too slow.
Sounds like an ADR sandwich with fusion in the middle. Just pass the pickles and the Mayo and the mustard. (Do you like mustard on your sandwich??) Hee Hee. Got to throw some levity in there.
I like the doctors who rely on the discogram to determine what disc to operate on. Gil I hope things run smoothly from here on out.
