Default Fracture to L3 Adjacent to Hardware

My wife Deborah also had surgery at Stenum at the same time as Bob and several others. During a CAT scan this week, they found a Vertical Fracture of L3 adjacent to the hardware.
Has anyone else heard of this, what outcomes, and what to do next?

No, I haven't heard of this, and I'm very sorry for her predicament.

Can you tell us what surgery she had?
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Welcome to SPS. Sorry to hear about your wife's situation. Have you contacted the surgeon? Do you have an ortho/surgeon who is willing to do follow up care near your home? I would really encourage you to not wait....sometimes it is easier to fix problems before they become bigger problems. Please post again to let us know her progress, diagnosis and recovery.

Tried almost every alternative prior to revision and ADR surgery including nerve blocks, steroid injections, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, rolfing. Have been on many different pain meds. Currently tapering off of narcotics as my pain level is significantly lower after ADR procedure . Happy to help anyone I can regarding scoliosis, ADR or fusion procedures.

    Thom,

I'm so sorry to hear that your wife, Deborah, has a vertebral body fracture after surgery. Did she have any other levels replaced, or just L3?

Have you contacted Stenum regarding this situation? If she had the Maverick disc installed, it could have been the size of the keel that caused the vertical fracture, especially if Deborah has smaller vertebral bodies.

Sorry for another question, but does she have a surgeon that is following her stateside?

Feel free to send me a private message if you have more questions or would like some guidance regarding your situation. I do wish you and Deborah the very best.

EDIT: I sent you a PM.

Update: It has been confirmed that Deborah did not have a vertebral body fracture, but rather it was an artifact on the film.

    Deborah is doing well.
