Thanks for the response "scduggan!" As of now I'm awaiting my first appointment for the bone marrow extraction on february 1st, and I won't get my first stem cell re-injection until 4 weeks later. I'll keep you all posted! And please DO keep us posted on your procedure ok? The freedom disc looks really promising!

"sd59", I'm definitely contacting the manufacturer soon. I'm taking the freedom disc as a backup in case the stem cell treatment doesn't work! But yeah they should've rigorously tested the thing with thousands if not a million repetitions. If you find out anything else, please keep us posted!

    HI Mike

Just got off the phone with a rep from AxiomMed 216-587-5566-Neil

He said the Freedom was put under various tests as indicated in the International Guide line
I asked about length of time and failure rate.
Different tests of polymer-- 50 million cycles I think of twisting or what they say = 40 human years
Flex / Extension of 30 million cycles = 240 human years
Not sure how they equate less cycles to more years

Was told only single level testing now with *** no failures

Multi level would require a different FDA test but not being done now.

He had it done by Mr ERS Ross at the Spire Hospital in Manchester. I've not seen him for 10 months but hear he is still doing well. I employed him to plaster and tile my bathrooms which he did really well and I could observe him working. He has got a pretty good range of motion and is very happy to have had such a good outcome.

The second person is having it at L4/L5 and has had a successful fusion a few years ago at L1/L2. I know them from a uk adr forum so will let you if I get any updates on how the op went. It is being done by the same surgeon at the same hospital.

I'm glad I keep hearing all these success stories on the Freedom Lumbar Disc. Now all I need to do is find more drs like Raymond Ross..

    Cheers!

My view of the Freedom Disc, from a laymen perspective, is that the spine works in concert as a whole, thus, the more closely an artificial disc can mimic a natural disc the better.

When a significant load is applied to the spine the wieght of what we are lifting/carrying is distributed all down the spine from cervical to lumbar. it would seem artificial discs that resemble natural discs will naturally better work in concert with adjacent discs and the whole of the spine, which is perhaps why adr designs continue moving closer to the spongy look and feel of natural discs.

edit: has anyone heard anything about the cervical version of the Freedom Disc yet?
