    Default Insurance Approval

Wow, a lot has been going on here. I took a break over the last few months from my whole back issue. As all of you know, it can get really frustrating to say the least. I spent all of last year trying, unsuccessfully, to get my insurance company to approve the hybrid procedure at Texas Back Institute. For 2010 I switched insurance companies to Aetna at Dr. Guyer’s request. Through my employer I can choose between 7 or 8 insurance companies without worrying about pre-existing conditions. TBI submitted the procedure to Aetna first thing this year on Jan 4th …we got a denial letter within two weeks. We started the appeal process right away but I had pretty much accepted the fact that it just wasn’t going to happen.

Well, yesterday I got the phone call from Dr. Guyer’s office. Aetna has approved the surgery!!! I’m actually looking at the calendar trying to schedule it right now. I really feel for all of you out there trying to get approved. I hope you take my story as an inspirational one. Don’t give up! (like I almost did). My brother had a three level ADR about 13 months ago and he is doing awesome! He fought with his insurance company for two years while he was in constant pain.

With all that being said, I will admit something...I’m scared to death to have this surgery! Oh, I’m not backing out…the pain and pills have made me a miserable person. I welcome any encouraging words from those who have been through it.
    God Bless,
    Tommy

Hey CD…thanks…I just booked it for 3/17. I’d try sooner but I’ve got business in Guam in a few weeks that I really can’t put off. I see you’re scheduled for 2/18. Is that with Dr. Guyer? Are you just having a one level procedure? I’m more concerned about the fusion on L5/S1 than the ADR. Not sure why really…I’m just not thrilled about surgery period. The discectomy two years ago was my first surgery ever. I literally almost blacked out when the dr told me I needed it. I’m such a wimp with this stuff. It’s pathetic really!
