Arrow My Dad's Surgical Evaluation at the Texas Back Institute

    Hello Everyone,

I just got into Dallas. My Dad has a surgical evaluation tomorrow morning 10/9/09. He is seeing Dr. Richard Guyer. It's been a crazy week trying to orchestrate this meeting at the last minute.

Please keep my Dad in your thoughts and prayers ...he's been dealing with a lot lately.

I'll post more tomorrow after we see Dr. Guyer.

Good Luck! That office is really good, the wait is never more than 5 minutes and not more than 5 or 10 minutes in the back, waiting from the time the nurse leaves until the dr. comes in. The doctors spend plenty of time with you and answer all of your questions. I really like them.

How long are you in Dallas for? Have fun, lots to do.

Good luck Justin. With all that you have been through yourself, you will make an excellent support person for your Father. This is a perfect example of Karma. I am sure you Father is going to be treated very well. Please let us know the outcome. He will be in our prayers as will you and your family.

    Default Thanks

Thanks everyone. I'm on the plane in Dallas and we are heading back to Albuquerque.

It was great to see Dr. Guyer again and he remembered who I was even after 6 years. My Dad definitely needs surgery. However, the number of levels is not yet decided so he needs to fly out to Dallas again for a discogram. He an EMG today and we established that surgery is right around the corner. Dr. Guyer wants my Dad to be in a clinical trial so they can cover one of the levels and then operate on the other levels together. I'm not sure how this will work with the study guidelines, but I'm sure it would be considered a compassionate case.

It is really hard to see a loved one in pain--in pain you know too well yourself.

I will be flying out to Dallas again soon for the disco and the final surgical evaluation. I have more to share, but I gotta run.

Thanks again for all of your support--it truly means a lot to both of us.

    Justin:

You have been there for all of us so it's time we support you now. Sometimes you need it more than other times and this is one of those times. It all comes out in the wash as this is the measure of what life is all about. Can you count on others when you need them the most? Because of who you are, that is an unequivocal; YES.

May God be with you and yours.

    Justin,
My prayers are with you and your dad through this ordeal. Do you think he will be enrolled into the Axiomed/Freedom disc trial? When I enrolled it was a fairly simple process - about an hour or so worth of questions/forms, x-rays, and then a consult with the Dr. That was it! I would still have to pay my maximum out of pocket insurance which is $5000. I truly hope all goes well with your dad.
