    Default Newbie 32y/o M w/ massive C5/C6 herniation -- Artificial Disc Replacement

    Hi all,

Just saying hello..... w/ some images attached..

I've been here lurking and PM'ing for a bit as I go through my fight w/ insurance to cover ADR. I lost the pre-cert and now I'm just going it alone b/c I really think ADR makes the most sense for my situation. I've had symptoms for about 18 months now. The worst has been the constant burning in my forearm and weakness (along w/ rapid fatiguing) in my right hand. I've tried most of the conservative treatments: meds, PT, epidurals, traction, acupuncture, hot/cold, rest, etc. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make much progress and my body never reabsorbed the disc. No history of major accidents, this appears to be purely degenerative...

So I'm on my way to Germany to have a discectomy and ADR... wish me luck!!

Welome to the site! I'm sorry you are having to go through this as such a young age but maybe you will recover faster. Your MRI does not look good in that spot. When are you scheduled for this surgery? I wish you much luck. It seems like they say it is easier for cervical than lumbar. Find all of Fuzzy's posts. He's been through it all!

Scheduled for Friday 2/12. Yes, I've read though many of the stories here and on other forums as well... thanks for the well wishes!
    - 34yo male original diagnosis was herniation at C5/C6, no history of trauma, symptoms started around 8/2008.
    - in 2008-9: PT, 3 epidural injections, oral steroids, anti-inflammatory meds, etc, acupuncture...
    - ADR (M6) implanted @ C5/C6 on 2/12/10 at Stenum Hospital by Ritter-Lang.
    - Serious neck pain and stiffness began in early 2011.
    - Images (2/2011) show bone growth, although C5/C6 is still mobile.
    - April 2011, pain is worse, also radiating down my right arm again.

    badbatzmaru,

It's great to see you posting. Sorry about the insurance issues with artificial disc replacement...I've been down that road as you know. I wish you the very best during your travels and that your operation is nothing short of a complete success!

    Dear Badbatzmaru,
Good luck with your upcoming surgery. What day will you leave for Germany? Your films look pretty bad and I know you must be really excited to end your misery. Keep us posted!
