Default Ranier CAdisc (Cervical / Lumbar Artificial Disc)

Now that the Ranier CAdisc-C and CAdisc-L (Compliant Artificial Disc for cervical and lumbar) is being used in trails I wanted to post in the case anyone has any feedback or experience with this new artificial disc. Apparently it's being manufactured, tried and only offered in UK thus far. My point of interest in this concept is the reversibility of it. It seems by it's very design it could easily explant (easily be removed) allowing for far less risk should the disc need to be removed (revision) for fusion. At the same time, by it's design, it's hard to tell if it will provide ample grip in preventing migration.

I emailed Ranier in early June just out of curiosity about US availability. Here's the reply from Louisa at Ranier. A very nice woman:

    Hello,

Just curious to know when/if your CAdisc L and C will one day be available to US patients or is that still unknown?

    Thanks for any help.
    Dear Carson

At this time it is still unknown, by the end of the year CAdisc - L will be available within Europe. I suggest you keep a close eye on our website to see when things may change.

    Best wishes

C4-5: Mild disc height loss with central annular fissure. Small broad-based left paracentral disc protrusion. Moderate central canal stenosis-the disc protrusion abuts and mildly flattens the left ventral surface of the spinal canal.

C5-6: Disc desiccation with mild height loss.Diffuse discosteophyte bulge and uncovertebral joint hypertrophy, moderate central canal stenosis- Severe neuroforaminal stenosis bilaterally, right greater than left

    Does this "compress" absorb shock?

It looks like Ranier Compliance Disc (CAdisc) has just received it's CE Mark in Europe; good news. Though details and Euro trial results are still very limited.
