Removing posterior bone spurs before ADR?... I need info about this since I have a Huge bone spur that looks like its going into my cord at c5-6 on my MRI...
I wish I new how to "save" and post the pic...
Help....
C4-5: Mild disc height loss with central annular fissure. Small broad-based left paracentral disc protrusion. Moderate central canal stenosis-the disc protrusion abuts and mildly flattens the left ventral surface of the spinal canal.
C5-6: Disc desiccation with mild height loss.Diffuse discosteophyte bulge anduncovertebral joint hypertrophy, moderate central canal stenosis- Severe neuroforaminal stenosis bilaterally, right greater than left
I had several osteophytes removed when they did my two-level ADR. They did it at the same time as the removed the old disc.

Diagnosed with DDD in Nov, 2007. MRI, EMG
C3/4 C4/5 C5/6 C6/7
Surgery 06.04.08--C5/6 and C6/7 w/Prodisc
C4/5 deterioration progressing quickly
MRI on lumbar shows disc herniation at L5/S1, stenosis at L3/4, L4/5, spondylosis and DDD at L2 through S1 in July, 2009
Nerve Root, Facet Injections and Epidural every 3 months. Ongoing treatment for continued degeneration.
Hi JK2234. As Dave mentioned, when the disc space and vertebral endplates are prepared during artificial disc replacement surgery, there is an opportunity to remove any bone spurs / osteophytes. However, access to posterior osteophytes can present a significant challenge and might even require a posterior decompression.

Re: Removing posterior bone spurs before ADR?... JK, if I remember correctly, you should be able to save and post your MRI image much like saving any other image. Try right clicking the image on your MRI CD which should then give you a list...save, save as, etc. Then save it to your computer. You can then upload it to a photosharing website like Webshots or Photo Bucket. That will allow you to post it here.

Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things
