Default US Spine Artificial Lumbar Disc - New

An upcoming next generation disc from a company called US Spine located in Florida.

Like the CAdisc, these discs become most interesting, within the disc, in terms of the their multiple regions of varying density and resistance, how they distribute load, control range of motion and ultimately mimic the viscoelastic properties of a natural disc. The proof will be in the results -- not youtube videos but certianly seems these companies are on the right track.

I'm just so happy to see not only the companies making the discs the way they should be (completely mimicing naturaly discs in function and design) but so many companies out there making them with some good ole fashion competition to keep the cost down. It just sucks it takes SOOOO long to get something designed, made, tested, FDA approved, then insurance approved. By the time all thats been done the manufacture has A LOT of costs they need to recuperate making these discs expensive as hell. Its not the actual manufacturing process that is so expensive....its everything leading up to that.

i hope we dont see a patent lawsuit on this disc slowing down the process to get it to market.

    Hi Carson

Thanks for the new information, are any studies taking place yet here in the states or do we need to go out of country?

Only time will tell, not soon enough for me.

    Thanks

Gil if having surgery anytime in the next 12 months I'd not hold your breath for this one. I wouldn't expect to see trials for this design from US Spine or others like it until we move out closer to 2012, 2013 at best. It's a long ways off. Of current discs, the Spinal Kinetics M6 L has similar qualities, however.

Cool looking disc. Idk how muchbetter than freedom lumbar it is though. The answer for artificial discs are those implanted from the extreme lateral though . Thats why that 3df discs looks pretty kick butt to me. Idk what they could do for a disc to be minimally inserted in l5/s1 but i figure they could just fuse that bad boy if necessary lol idk. Maybe figure some loop that is pushed throgh a drilled hole like the trans one then filled with nucore gel. But like carson said, this disc wont be on market lol till like 2018 at earliest probbably. Then insurance wont cover till like 2028, yikes ill be 46 then when i should be worried about lower back disc issues lol. Hopefully thet mesoblast stuff soon and that can work till u get good replacements.

Exactly; it takes time and no definitive guarantee this disc or the 3DF disc will make it to market or even trials; both are still in pre-clinical development. I contacted U.S. Spine for an update on their Spartacus disc and will post when they reply.

They should do more trials b/c im sure alot of people would not mind being a "guinea pig" with a "try it at your own risk disclaimer" for all the new products coming. sportsnut3007 I think your right about people in the U.S having to wait till 2028. Sometimes i wonder how long it will take the M6 to make it over here.

    Sportsnut,

this disc wont be on market lol till like 2018 at earliest probbably. Then insurance wont cover till like 2082, yikes ill be 46 then when i should be worried about lower back disc issues lol.

I'll let you all keep the home fires burning over this as I'll probably be dead by 2018 or in a nursing home with drool pretending to be demented chasing little old laddies and little young nurses. By 2082 I'm sure my back pain will no longer be a problem.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions
