Electromyography (EMG) & Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) Testing

Electromyography (EMG) is a test that measures the electrical activity of one's muscles, whereas a Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test measures how well and how fast a nerve can send an electrical impulse. These tests are used to determine if there are any muscle or nerve issues, which can subsequently help your treating physician(s) in making a diagnosis.

Justin,

Do you think the NCV testing could help locate the nerve problems that I'm having?

I'm certain I have a pinched nerve. I still think it's from a trapped sinuvetebral nerve, leading to the gray ramus communicans, to the sympathetic nervous system.

If this type of testing is becoming more popular, do you know anybody who performs it? I'll research it too!

Hey Dave,

EMG & NCV is widely used in PM&R (Physical Medicine) and Neurology.

Do you think the NCV testing could help locate the nerve problems that I'm having?

To be honest, I'm not sure because your situation is unique. However, I would speak with your current PM physician and ask him what he thinks...and if he doesn't do EMG/NCV testing, he will definitely know who does in your area.
