    Default Emg???

How can they tell from an EMG/NCS if it's an issue from pinched or irritated nerves vs some knid of neurological disease? I am having my 5th one nexk week. I mean if they keep sticking me with the cervical arthritis that I have adventually they are going to get something showing up on the EMG as not normal. They are doing another CT myelogram that morning and the EMG that afternoon. I am soooo scared! I have such great pain comning from my lower neck. All of my issues are in my hands. Bilateral progression in the last 9 months since the pain in my lower neck got worse and after they did my 3rd surgery. Couldn't it be from that or the facet joints? I have complained of facial pain, pressure behind my eyes, and even pain in my tounge. But my dentist believes this is from my TMJ. I don't have trouble talking or swallowing and my voice seems fine.

I wish I could give you some information on this. I"ve had one EMG a couple of years ago, and I think it was used to locate the nerves in the muscles during my fusion and ADR surgeries. It might be a question for you to ask of your surgeon, or another for that matter. If you decide to send your MRIs to another surgeon, you could present this question at the same time.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

I have had a couple of these too, as I get numb thumbs and pain in my wrists really bad. They did a cervical MRI and found nothing, did and EMG and (can't remember the name of it) at the same time. They also came back clear. I went to a hand doctor, he called it some syndrome, not carpal tunnel, a different tunnel.... can't remember the name of it either (common theme with me). Anyhow, he injected me with steroids in the sides of my wrists (I'll be honest here, hurt like hell, and the next day was horrid). I now have no pain in my wrists at all. I would just be sure they rule out cervical problems and such, then see if that might work.
