Yes, good luck Alison. I never had any sedation with my discogram. My doc said absolutely not. You need to be conscious to determine your pain generators. I offered....I'm pretty sure I can determine them half looped! But, he didn't buy.![]()

I had my discogram with your specialist & was given very light sedation. It didn't reproduce the pain during the procedure - felt no increased pain at all which got me a bit concerned at the time but for about 10 days afterwards it was like a bad flare up so took meds round the clock. Is this the first time you've had one or did you have one pre ADR?
Hope it goes as smoothly as possible.

1993 Back pain age 29.
1998-2001 DDD at L1/2. 10 admissions for discography/epidurals/facet injections/disc injections/RFA's.
2005 ALIF at L1/2 with BMP & good result: pain free
2007 DDD at L4/5 unresponsive to epidural. Discography: early degeneration, anular tear & bulge. Limited response to core strengthening.
2009 ADR (activ L) L4/5.
2011 Facet injections L4/5 & later on T10-L2.
2011 (October) Epidurogram, epidural, nerve root injections & RFA's T10-L2.
I had my 2 level as an emergency op as I was experiencing reduced bowel and bladder control so "escaped" the disco then.
For post op pain after the adr I opted for an epidural that was put in at L2/L3 and it was extremely hard to put in (three goes from what I can remember) and extremely painful. It did not work with sensation remaining in one half of my abdomen.
In 2008 I tried a caudal epidural which went in ok but caused immediate extreme pain and set off the extreme nerve pain which I still have. Thats when I started on the gabapentin. I then refused to pursue any facet injections.
My history with needles in my back is very poor. I am good at managing acute pain (had 3 kids with no pain medication), its just my bloomin awkward back.![]()

I'm looking forward to a nice weekend as the next one will be painful!
I'm going to have a chat with the pharmacist today and see if he thinks its worth pre-emptively upping my nerve meds a bit before the procedure. I don't want to mask anything but i would like to be able to cope afterwards.
