    Default mri results

I had a new mri performed on Sunday and had the results sent to me yesterday. My spine at all levels look good.No herniations or any other problems at other levels.

The level I had fused L5-S1 has a lot of scar tissue forming midline and to the right surrounding the
    nerve root.

My question is can scar tissue cause the amount of pain I am in , and if so can anything calm it down.
I can not sit longer then ten minutes without getting up , and I have a ton of tailbone pain.Seems like any pressure gives me a great deal of pain.

It's great news that your lumbar spine looks good as per the MRI. Scar tissue can definitely cause pain, especially if it is surrounding the nerve root as you state.

Scar tissue is tricky. The body responds to injury by creating scars. Some people make more scar tissue than others--there's really on rhyme or reason behind it.

Unfortunately, there really is no treatment for scar tissue. There are some products that state they reduce adhesions and scar tissue. However, these products are not approved by the FDA and contain ingredients that you would probably rather not ingest or inject.

I had a lot of pain post op from scar tissue. Mine was all in my abdomen. I was getting horrible stomach aches, constipation, nausea, cramping, tenderness, etc. I had sonograms of all my girl parts to rule that out, colonoscopy, upper GI and some other testing and the only thing that ever came of it was probably scar tissue (had small ovarian cyst and pre-cancerous polyps, neither that would cause my symptoms). I was going to have an exploratory surgery to remove any adhesions, but while waiting on booking it, it resolved itself. I would give it time and see if that helps, as I'm not sure more surgery really will (and it could make it worse, causing more scar tissue.) I'm having a c-section next week and am scared that I'm going to have the same issues again with scar tissue and what not, but at least I know now to wait it out for a bit before thinking about surgery.

I have been trying to wait it out , the last thing I want is another surgery.I thought after 1.5 years it would be gone by now.

I did talk to a PM and he said he could give me a ESI and see if that would help , I also will start stretching more and maybe start some deep tissue massage.

I never new scar tissue could be so bad.Sitting is unbearable and nothing seems to give any relief.

The only thing I found that could help scar tissue was lysis of the adhesions and then adhesion barriers. There wasn't a lot of information available (at the time I was researching it, 1.5 years ago) and only a handful of doctors in the US doing it. It may be worth checking in to.

Mike, good luck with the epidural steroid injection. FYI: lysis of adhesions is a commonly performed operation. However, it is usually in combination with another operation. Also, the "typical" lysis of adhesions is abdominal / lower pelvis in nature, not near the nerve roots.

A fresh set of eyes on your case is a good idea. Keep us posted!

Hey Justin , do you have any recommendations on philly docs.I was looking at Balderson , but really could not find anyone else.

I have been to jeff and temple and would rather not go back to either.

I believe Justin saw the above bolded doctor for his surgical follow up. I know there are a couple of other SPS members who have seen him and been very pleased. I've only heard good things about him.

    Default update

So I had the ESI , and as far as the actual injection. The whole procedure was very calming. The DR is very good and professional.

I did not feel a thing except for the initial stick to numb the skin. Now as far as getting any relief , that is another story.I have not noticed any relief at all.I actually had a increase in pain for a couple days.

I am scheduled to get two more of these in the next two months.Hopefully by that time I will have a better grasp if they will be successful.
