    Default Prolotherapy

My quiropractor recommended that I try prolotherapy for my SI joint pain. I want to first consult with my orthopedist before trying it, but I was wondering if anyone here had tried it? I had never heard of this before today, but apparently it has been used since the time of Hippocrates. I don't think my pain management doctor does this, but a physiatrist in my area performs it, apparently with good results.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Claudia,

There are at least two of our members who have benefited from this, Rose and Rob Wilson. Rose isn't on much now, but perhaps she has an email link in her profile that you can use to reach her. If not, let me know and I'll call her about your question. Rob is here more often, but if you want a quick answer, you might try doing the same with him
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Thank you Katie! I would like to know how it went for Rose and Rob. All I have read are good things about this therapy, but it can be a little expensive ($80 for each treatment) and insurance doesn't cover it, so I would love to speak to other spine patients about how it went for them. I am going to try to contact them directly, thanks for the advice.
And justin, thank you for the article. I am pretty much sold on giving this a try. I will definitely let everyone know how it goes.

I believe you should try prolotherapy. $80 for prolotherapy is very cheap. I pay a lot more than that. If the doctor does PRP you should try that as well. It can enhance the prolotherapy. I have had some success although I am still having SI issues.

I had my first session today. The injections hurt, but not more than a steroid injection. They were performed under a flouroscope and the doctor injected me all over the SI area. I am sore right now, he told me to apply heat to the area and that I would be sore for two or three days, since the injections will cause inflammation. He also told me that I would probably need at least 3 or 4 sessions to get good results. My next appointment is in three weeks.

Rob, I asked him about the plasma injections, and he told me that they also do them, but that for the first one we were just going to do the prolotherapy. Thank you again for talking to me the other day

I will let everyone know how I progress.
