    Default reason for EMG?

Can anyone tell me what the benefit would be of having an EMG done if we already know from the MRI that the L5 nerve root is being affected by my spondylolisthesis? I just don't want any more unnecessary tests. Thanks in advance for any info.

An EMG could possible reveal other diseases of the muscle (if you have additional symptoms that warrant further testing). However, with your spondylolisthesis, it obvious which nerve root is affected. The EMG could help determine if other nerves are implicated in your situation.

Thanks Justin. I do have lots of pain in the hip and buttock area, can't seem to get anyone to tell me if that's all from the nerve root or if something else is involved. I did have cracks in my hip and pelvis from the MVA that were my very first pain issues. I still have excruciating pain when I lay on that hip. In case I haven't said so before, I'm so very glad that this site is here.
