Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN)

Institute for Spine Care Unique Treatments
The Institute for Spine Care, a division of the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch (CINN), is the nation’s first comprehensive neurosurgical spine care center. Patients suffering from spine conditions and the resulting back pain and neck pain consult with an interdisciplinary team of specialists.

CINN developed the Institute for Spine Care to provide the most progressive back specialists in the nation. We have brought together a team of physicians and spine care specialists, who are dedicated to finding better ways to treat back and neck problems. Justin-just an FYI...went to CINN Dr. Karahalios. He recommended a disc replacement @ C 5/6 and a fusion @ C6/7. He has done 2 hybrid surgeries, one was successful and was one. He has never done a 2 level ADR. He also said he would leave C3/4 alone (because it wasn't bad enough yet.)

    Ultimately-I went w/ Dr. Bertagnoli

FYI - CINN is no longer in operation. It was bought out by NorthShore University Healthsystem (Evanston Hospital, Skokie Hospital, Highland Park Hospital). It seems that all of the doctors from CINN have transferred there.

Let me know if you need contact info for NorthShore.
Diagnoses: FMS, Interstitial Cystitis, Osteoarthritis and bone spurs in cervical spine, herniations C4-5. C6-7

Surgeries: Cervical Discectomy & Fusion C5-6, Bladder cystoscopy & hydrodistension (2005), Surgery to remove scar tissue in urinary tract & bladder (2008), Cervical Discectomy & Artificial Disc Replacement (2009)

I've been told I need a third spine surgery at age 32. I'm currently debating whether to go through with it...

Not to split hairs, but CINN still exists as a practice, just within the Northshore University system. Fine line I know, but that is how it was explained to me by the two CINN doctors that I have seen. They no longer run the Neurological & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago (closed in Dec.’09). All of the doctor’s main offices are at the Skokie hospital but see patients at various Northshore locations periodically. Most of the surgeries take place at Skokie, however the physiatrists administer injections that don’t require anesthesia at the Evanston hospital. If you need anesthesia you’ll be at Skokie.

While I have nothing but good things to say about the doctors there, the transition has been a little rocky and things are not as seamless as it was at the old NOHC. Full disclosure, I no longer see the CINN neurosurgeon that did my ACDF. But would go back to my CINN physiatrist even if he practiced in Timbuktu.
