The Laser Spine Center was founded by Dr. Daniel S. J. Choy, who is on the staffs of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He is widely recognized as one of the leaders in contemporary laser medicine and surgery.

Dr. Choy has taught PLDD to over 300 neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons worldwide and is the author of a textbook on PLDD published by Springer-Verlag in 2003.

As of March 2009, Dr. Choy has peformed more than 7,200 procedures.
