    Move if you have back pain, this is the advice of a researcher at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. Patients with acute low back pain who were advised to stay active despite the pain fared better than those who were told to adjust their activity in line with their pain. The thesis looked at 109 patients with acute severe lowback pain.....

    I total agree movement is key, I was stiff and in pain lots of little walks and today I am much better,

    Working through the pain is not an easy task.

    L4-L5 Annular fissure with mild central stenosis and moderate facet hypertrophy.
    L5-S1 bilaterial neural foraminal narrowing with inferior effacement.

    Believe it or not I always found my back was better after I had a long ride on my motorbike (sadly on doctors advise I have now given that up :-( ) I did find it better to keep moving then to sit or lie down.

    1992 3 Level Graf Stabilization L3 – S1
    1993 – 2010 Pain blocks a plenty
    2010 Nerve root decompression L5 – S1 (right leg)
    Aug 2011 - Nerve root decompression L5 – S1 (Left leg)
    Aug 2011 – Remove 8 Pedicule screws and Dacron Ligaments
    Aug 2011 – Level Bone graft with pedicule screws and rods – posterior
    Sep 2011 - No pain meds at all!

    I definitely agree, it's easier said than done though.
    31 years old- 1/06- In wreck with 18 wheeler at 25 years old; 6/06- Head on collision on Interstate, both wrecks other drivers fault. Numerous MRI's, PT, chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS therapy, massage therapy, facet injections, epidural injections, Nerve study, Discogram, confirms pain in L4/5, IDET, decompression, Bi-lateral neurotomy L3/4/5, denied by insurance twice, in Active L clinical trial, had surgery March 17, 2009 in Miami, FL- received Active L disc at 29 years old. Pain and medication free as of October 2010!Mommy to Emma- 8 years, Ava- 6 years & had baby Eli after ADR, via c-section on March 25, 2011 , completely pain free still!

    In complete agreement. It may hurt like heck today, but tomorrow it's always better.
    1976 - Fell from tree. The beginning!
    1985 - Car accident - pull back muscle.
    1985 - Spring 2010 -Flare ups off and on. Meds manage - Life goes on.
    9/2010 -Pain returns, Diag DDD of the L4/5 & L5/S1 space with arthritis. .
    10/ 2010 - Referral to PM Doctor & PT. PT not helpful. MRI confirms DDD, bulging disc of L4/5space. Pneumonia. Pain off charts!
    11/2010 - 3/ 2011 2 RSNB/2 ESI. Relief short lived . Referred to surgeon.
    6/29/11 -TLIF Fusion of L4/5 space.
