My experience has been that my back was in quite a bit of pain in undergrad nursing school which I know came from the book lugging backpack as it eased off when I eased off (or rather "had to ease off lugging books/backpack) and most absolutely freakin' definately my back went out during sex! This doctor must have forgotten what the "active" part of the sexual experience is all about (at least for the partner).

Wayyyyyy back in the early '80's I remember seeing the work appointed doctor in Nob Hill SF and he asked if I could still have sex or was my back hurting too much for that. Ok I was in my late 20's back then so it wasn't as problematic as it was going to become tho when I said "no" that surely seemed to him I didn't have such bad back pain.

Sounds like this "expert" is only an expert about his opinion, not the opinion of people with real back problems. There are just too many of us out here who have gone thru so much that we as a collective group of people should be publishing. We the people (the truly experienced in pain).

I think the backpack is an Ok thing when utilized properly however loaded down or overloaded it only makes sense that there's potential to cause strain if nothing else which could turn into something else if continually present or aggravated (like repetitve use type of injury tho repetive strain) at least this is my unpublished tho not entirely unprofessional opinion.

Hear hear! Perhaps we should invite him to a 'conference' and let each and every one of us let him know exactly how much he doesn't know
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
