Default Dr. Boeree: Feedback and Information Please

I have seen Dr. Boeree's name mentioned several times since I had my surgery in March/10 in Brazil with Dr. Pimenta. I don't remember there being much information about him before that, and since then, I've had no need to investigate much.

Unfortunately, one of our best friends (who along with his wife, actually came to Brazil with us for moral support) now finds himself in need of multi-level spine surgery. Having met Dr. Pimenta already and been 'on-site', he of course is leaning heavily towards having surgery with him. They have already had a fair bit of communication regarding his case and a game plan ready when he makes a final decision.

He asked if there were anyone else that this forum was recommending, and I mentioned that several members had gone to Dr. Boeree, with seemingly great results. He wanted one more opinion (besides the totally useless Canadian ones...we can't do anything...go take more drugs...) and was hoping to get the contact information and any other feedback about Dr. B.

I didn't see the exact address or phone number here, so could some of you with experience with the good doctor like to pass on what you know? You can send a PM if you like, and I will forward it to my friend.

    Many thanks.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Nick Boeree has a website with contact information:

International Spine (Spinal) Surgeon Nick Boeree based in the UK
Diagnosed in February, 2011, with "moderately-severe to severe" stenosis at C 5-6 and C 6-7
I have nerve root compression of C-6 and C-7
Local surgeons have advised I will require a two-level ADCF at some point, but don't want to do it now because of lack of spinal cord compression symptoms.

I guess the URL is being automatically converted to the title of the website.

Thanks everyone. Spinches, when I clicked on the title, it took me right to the website. It is confusing when it does that...I've posted links before and it has done the same thing.

Alison, do you mean that the specialists over there do not use 'Dr.' at all in front of their names? That takes some getting used to here Our docs will throw that salutation, along with as many 'titles'/degrees after their name as possible. How do you distinguish the surgeons when they don't identify themselves with 'Dr. ' ?

How many here have had him perform surgery, and how satisfied have you been with the results? Just a random, sadly unscientific survey

All become Dr on qualifying, they then go on and study further to earn the right to be called Mr again. It's useful in a hospital as you know whether you are seeing a consultant or someone who is further qualified to carry out surgery in their speciality. No one else calls themselves Mr.

I have had recent surgery with Mr Boeree 2 weeks ago. I am still healing but had an very good impression of him. He is both very knowledgeable and very caring. Wonderful bedside manner. I am still healing but I think he is a great choice

Thanks everyone. Mr/Dr. Boeree certainly sounds like a very skilled and compassionate surgeon. I have passed all of this on to my friend...now he has the difficult decision to make...where to go...what to do....

Katie ... I had 2 M6-Cs installed by Nick Boeree on October 13, 2009. I'm a medical world phobic so I don't "do" doctors and hospitals well. I can't say enough wonderful things about Nick, his office team, and the hodpital staff. I'm a fews days from being 2 years out and am thrilled with my experience with him and with my surgial results.

SInce then I've had aroud 100 people contact me about my esperiences. Of those who've been and reported back to me -- which is most -- report the same results. The man in just an incredible, real, participative physician. and humanbeing ... AND he's intersted in hearing about your follow up, peven communicating with your follow-up dotor.

Until July 2004, I was living life normally where terrifiying symptoms in my arms and shoulders began.

March 2005 -- Diagnosed with a sever case of bilateral Neurogenic thorocic outlet syndrome by UCSF's TOS clinic and two specialized MRSs There is no true cure; only finding ways to live with it. Won't kill me but have to watch for strokes.

January 2005 -- Fractured base of 5th metetarsal of right foot do to a fall most likely cause by my cervical disc issues. Due to idiot ER doctor who refused to pin it, I dealth with a non-union fracture and casts for two years. Thank God for Dr. Paul Weiner of Vallejo, CA

Aug. 2006 -- Diagnosed with cervical spondylotic myelopathy at C4-5 and C5-6 (C6-7 is "iffy") at UCSF Spine Clinic by neurosurgeon Dr. Dean Chou. He told me about artificial discs since I had NO intention of fusion. It was a long, dangerous road, with many insurance appeals before I decided my only solution was out-of-country. I had my Dr. Chou's support.

Aug. 2008 -- Chronic migraine was diagnosed by UCSF's top neurologist in migraines.

Oct. 14, 2009 -- Two M6-C discs installed by Nick Boeree of The Spine Clinic in Eastliegh England. My outcome was fantastic: no surgical pain, no incision pain, no need for pain killers (I can't take them anyway). No problem with esophogus; eating as soon as my eyes were open, and trodding through th halls the same afternoon.

Note: My C6-7 is marginal. Fusion was suggest for the joint with the two M6-Cs on top. I opted not using the theory that with reduced stress above it, my C6-7 will last longer.

Currently campaining to force the FDA to create a "fast track" for successful, CE-marked products. The European test process is actually more scientifically logical, hence a faster "yes" or "no" response on new products. And most of those products originate in the US! But first steps first.
