    Sandra
Diagnosed in February, 2011, with "moderately-severe to severe" stenosis at C 5-6 and C 6-7
I have nerve root compression of C-6 and C-7
Local surgeons have advised I will require a two-level ADCF at some point, but don't want to do it now because of lack of spinal cord compression symptoms.

Thanks for the update Mike. I didn't have that one...he must have changed it. It might have been a typo, but Raphael is a 'he'....a very cute one

Good luck with everything, both of you.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

The email address you supplied did work, Mike. Raphael replied to my request immediately. And Katie, thanks for clarifying that Raphael is a "he." The name is masculine in Spanish, but I didn't know about Portugese. Thanks to both of you for being so helpful to me and others. The support and information I have received from you and other people on this site has brought me so far from where I was after seeing my MRI images for the first time in February. Whatever it is that I decide to do about my spine problems, I now feel like I can face it and do it.

All the best, Sandra. Keep us updated with your progress, and if you want any feedback about getting around the English problem. It is true that there are not many in his office that speak English, but they will quickly get someone when they realize what you need. I just kept asking for Raphael when I called

Just a suggestion about calling Brazil...I learned quickly to add it to my long distance savings plan, or get a calling card. The first call cost me over $50, but I chatted awhile. For an extra $5/mo on my phone bill, it cut the cost/min down to just cents instead of a couple of dollars

I would advise asking about an epidural during and after the surgery...it reduced my pain immensely. Thankfully the anesthesiologist spoke fluent English and was happy to oblige.
