Been following how he is getting on with twitter, really interesting seeing how him and other cyclist live day to day. An awesome amount of training and hardship goes on.

What do you ride? I have always found mountain biking easier on the back as I went to a full sus Scott when my problems started. My road bike (a lovely condor) has been used much less. What distances do you do?

Watching to see if he can beat Boonen and Farrar in the sprint today. They showed one of the Japanese riders doing stage 1 yesterday. There are two from Japan in the tour.

Very cool! As much as I like cycling, I've never gone in a race. How did you do? And the name of your bike is funny, as my daughters' riding breeches for their horseback days were called Harry Halls (the brand) ;-)
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Yes, way cool pic. That's encouraging to see after multiple lumbar adr's! I've never done a race either. I switched to a recumbent bike which I found to be easier on the back, however, ironically, that is the bike I had my fall with when I fractured my back in two places. I still use it (after the default was repaired!) but am now finding I can also ride an old fashioned upright bicycle with minimal pain. For short distances, of course. So I keep one of those up here at the cabin. I'll try and get a pic of it to post, because it is just the cutest bike....like something I rode when I was a kid, with a basket on the handle bars, etc.

Race was a tri but I could do it as the run was off road on grass so low impact. I think I came top 20 in that one. My swimming and biking was really good at the time even though I couldn't bend enough to get down onto the drops. Harry Hall is a very famous bike maker/shop in Manchester and the bike first belonged to a bronze medalist in the commonwealth games in Manchester so has a good pedigree.
