    Any cycling fans on here?

I'm getting excited about the Tour de France starting on Saturday. It will be good to have a guaranteed few hours of tv to watch each day to help pass the time.

I have been watching cycling for years (as well as doing alot of it when I've been able to move). I've recently read caught up with reading lots of cycling books so thats added to my enthusiasm (not that it needed much igniting!).

    Alison,

I try to watch the bike race when I get time. I also started riding my bike a bunch last summer,(inspired by Terry) at least until I stopped at a buddy's house, had a couple of beers and crashed into a chain link fence on the way home. This was 3 months after surgery. My neck was fine but I broke two ribs when I landed on the handle bars.

This spawned two responses from me.
    1. I haven't ridden since.
    2. I have not drank since that fateful night.(This is a plus)

Fences are not good to go into! Chain link is very sneaky because you can't see it in the dark.

I once ended up attached to my bike (by my bike shoes clipped onto the pedals) upside down at the top of very steep slope. The bike was higher up than me and once my hubbie had finished laughing, he had real fun dragging me back up to the path. Only hurt my pride and I can see it was funny now.

Alison, I try to catch parts of the Tour. I have a good friend that is a triathlon junky and he'd always talk about Lance, so I actually started watching the race as opposed to just catching the "highlights" on ESPN.

Dave: I'm sorry buddy, but your story put hilarious visuals in my head (except for the broken ribs, of course). It reminds of some of the stories I'd hear from my frat buddy friends on a Monday morning in class.

I'll look out for them, I'm going to print off my team rosters so I can be a real nerd and sit with in front of the tv and spot riders before the commentator. Tragic I know.

Clearly my favourite rider is Mark Cavendish as he comes from the North West of England.

Cycling is my favourite form of exercise, but I've given it up till after surgery. My balance is so bad that I've taken more than a few tumbles

My hubby bought me a brand new bike almost three years ago, big tires and seat, so comfortable I've gone out on it a few times, but sadly it is sitting in the garage for now.

I used to cycle everywhere when I was in my early 20s as I didn't have a car, and there was no bus service where I lived in the Yukon. My bright orange bike and my dog...we were a regular around town Can't wait to get back at it.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Default think i can hear my bikes

... crying of boredom in the garage! I got back on them after my first surgery, hubbie adjusted bike so i wouldn't have to bend too much and had full suspension to stop any impact to my spine. It was ace. If I fuse I am definitely getting back on my favourite steed even if its just inside on a turbo trainer.
