Unfortunately, the chicken news is not good. Three nights ago, one of our gorgeous black hens, Mrs. Black (yes, original, I know) didn't come back to the coop. Two options; some varmint got her, but there is no signs of struggle with feathers or anything, or she decided to 'set'. Meaning that she has been hiding eggs in the bushes somewhere and is now setting on them to hatch. It is also called brooding, and nothing will get them off once they start. I'm hoping it is this of course, and she will appear with half a dozen babies in three weeks. Fingers crossed everyone!
Mr Rooster all of a sudden has gotten sick too, but with no obvious signs of illness. He is just very weak. I called the vet that I got him from and she recommended antibiotics, electrolytes and baby vitamins, all of which he has in his water now. He's in our big dog crate, and at least isn't getting worse, but is still pretty quiet. I LOVE this guy and I'm pretty upset about it, especially since he is a heritage breed and not easy to replace.
I'll try to come up with some happy stories in a bit. Have to run errands for now. Sorry to be a downer, but that's farm life sometimes.![]()

. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
, completely pain free still!
