    Default Desperate for Relief....

This has way too much TMI, so read on if you can handle that......

Okay, I'm open to just about anything at this point. I am beyond constipated (to the point that I have thought about going to the hospital, but dang I just can't suck up my pride for that). I have a short list of medications I can take while pregnant, which aren't powerful enough or make me vomit (Milk of Magnesia- ughhh). Anyhow, I am drinking juice (V8 Fusion, Apple juice) like it's going out of style (it can cause diarrhea), eating lots of fruits, take in plenty of fiber and water. I eat Activia when I can; but once again the morning sickness makes it not that appealing to me. I'm looking for anything natural that may help me. I have even tried Miralax, which isn't on my approved list, but like I said, I'm desperate. I'm hoping I don't have a blockage or something, but I really don't want to go to the doctor. It is so bad that I am having a hard time even passing gas, the juice is helping, but I am blowing up huge from it. Any ideas???

Kathy wish I had some words of encouragement. I ran into similar problem with my last surgery. I tried everything under the sun I mean everything !!!!!! For immediate relief until the other stuff kicks in I used a Child's Fleet Enema no so harsh as an Adult. My problem only resolved once I came home I have a mental issue with using only my own bathroom.Talk about a horrible 9 days but sure enough as soon as I got in the door it was all systems go. I'm not sure what will get things moving for you but at least in the short term my suggestion may help. Don't worry about the topic I'm pretty sure there's not a single person on here that can honestly say that they haven't had this problem at one time or another.I hope you can find some relief I know how horrible of a feeling it is. Matter of fact I would love to hear all suggestions because I need to avoid this very soon. And it's always an issue for me every surgery that I have. You'll find this funny. My hubby says the other day to me (when I was trying to come up with questions for the doctor) make sure you ask them about your going problem !! (Eyebrows lifted) I know all he was thinking was he didn't want to have to go out to the pharmacy and buy the mother load of constipation supplies !!! LOL

Kathy, I hate to say it, but when I have been right in your shoes and tried everything, I mean everything, it was only when I caved and took the Milk of Magnesia (makes me gag too) that things started to finally rumble and move! Just sayin'.

Were you able to find the Tamarin paste? That was the only thing that worked for me in Brazil.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Have you tried flax seed oil? I don't know if it is safe during pregnancy so definitely check first, but it helps me. I buy it at GNC in 1,000 mg pills. I hope you feel better soon!

Post surgery I got the most success from bags of dried prunes, figs and dates. I had a bag a day, it seemed to work better than any tablets, I had a few every 20 mins and combined with some high fibre cereal (all bran) this brought on action.

Claudia and Ajj1001 have good suggestions. I recently started taking Flax seed oil twice a day as well as FiberOne cereal the one with the highest fiber 40% I believe.Throw in some prunes (really like the prunes wrapped in gold foil they taste like candy) it might really get things going. I know all these things combine have helped me lately I have a very sensitive system even on a good day.Hope your feeling better Kathy !!!!

Thanks everyone. I finally went to the doctor as I was miserable. They gave me one of those yummy bottles of magnesium citrate to drink. I drank the full 10 oz. (it said to drink either a half or whole bottle), so figured might as well go for the gusto. It said results in 1/2 hour to 6 hours, 14 hours later it finally worked. Woo Hoo, yup even texted my hubby celebrating! LOL I'm going to the grocery store today and going to pick up some of the above mentioned items and work them into my diet, so I don't end up like that again.
