I'm going away somewhere on my own for the first time since May. Off to visit my lovely baby girl in Swansea for the weekend tomorrow. I have a little wheelie bag that I can just manage on my own so I have to fit everything in that. Thats my job for the day. It make me realise how tied to my house I have become.

Isn't that the truth, Alison! I have turned into such a hermit too, and didn't realize how much until I took a few necessary trips to surgeons, etc. It's a whole new world out there![]()
You will have so much fun, and do very well on your own. This is a great excuse to learn how to pack light!
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
Alison, have a wonderful time. You will do fine and it will be so good for you. Do report back after your visit!

Have fun, Alison! I understand about being "tied to the house" -- this was true for me during most of my recovery. Now that I am doing better, I spend as much time as I can out of the house. I know it can be a "big step," but you will do fine as CL said above.
This will be a great memory between you and your daughter.![]()

I definitely feel tied to the house and if I do go somewhere, I still find myslef carefully planning outings from their house, so I don't end up out somewhere and in pain. I will be praying for a great trip for you!

Had a lovely time but I am having a really floppy easy day today. My daughter did a really good job looking after me and it was like being home from home. She had spent all week cleaning the kitchen so it would be usable. The journey was ok, very long but as I was able to move about it was survivable.
It was difficult talking to her about the recent developments with my spine but was much easier to do in person. She was the main person who looked after me pre and post fusion and we were already very close and made us even closer. She is very protective of me.

Alison,
I'm glad you had a good time. Getting away can be very therapeutic for the mind. After spending time cleaning the kitchen, I hope you got served some great vittles.
It sounds like you have a wonderful daughter. That's really cool that you two are that close. Cherish that.

Nerve Root, Facet Injections and Epidural every 3 months. Ongoing treatment for continued degeneration.
Alison, I am so happy that you had a nice time with your daughter. There is nothing like mother and daughter time.
Off subject, but regarding the parent/child bond. When I got pregnant with my first child, I remember thinking "Will this child love me as much as I love my mother and father? Will they think that I am the infinite source of wisdom I thought my parents were as a child, and once again, now that I am an adult?" It just blew my mind, that somebody would/could and does love me like I loved my parents. Then, of course, once I had her and my mother bear instinct kicked and I vowed I would never do anything to hurt this child and would do everything I could to protect her.... I realized a mother's love for a child.
Hope you aren't hurting too much from the travel and that you are back to your 'normal' soon.
Kathy

It's good that you had a change of scene & that the trip went well. As Dave said it can be refreshing to do something different. Hope you had some bright spells weather-wise, it's been very rainy in north Lancashire.
Hope you're recovering from it OK & not too achy.
