Heat Wave OK. Enough is enough. I was in Chicago yesterday and it was 96 with a heat index of 104. Today, back in Michigan, it is 92 with a heat index of 101 so far. I'm working on the shop floor today and I really feel bad for the people who work in this everyday. Two weeks ago we heard that "summer would be cancelled" this year due to the jet stream being so far south. Well I guess it moved north again.
Here's to the people who deal with this every day. My hat is off to them.

It is 101 here today, not sure what the heat index is. Yesterday was 102 and the day before 104, oh so hot. And, to top it off, my kids complain they are 'cold' everytime we are in the car with the air on and beg for me to turn it off. Umm, that would be a negative! I prefer the heat over the cold though, so I'll take it.
31 years old- 1/06- In wreck with 18 wheeler at 25 years old; 6/06- Head on collision on Interstate, both wrecks other drivers fault. Numerous MRI's, PT, chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS therapy, massage therapy, facet injections, epidural injections, Nerve study, Discogram, confirms pain in L4/5, IDET, decompression, Bi-lateral neurotomy L3/4/5, denied by insurance twice, in Active L clinical trial, had surgery March 17, 2009 in Miami, FL- received Active L disc at 29 years old. Pain and medication free as of October 2010!Mommy to Emma- 8 years, Ava- 6 years & had baby Eli after ADR, via c-section on March 25, 2011, completely pain free still!
Just checked, so far the heat index for today is 104. We had our first local heat death a couple of days ago. It is, sadly, very dangerous for the poor, young and elderly and many die every summer from the extreme heat. We do have groups that check on them, help them get aid for a/c or window units, pay their electric, give them cool down tips and etc. I usually make my kids stay in from 1-4pm, when the heat and sun are the worst.

OK, officially it hit 93 on the beach in Grand Haven. Lake Michigan water temp is 61. Usually we are 10-15 degrees cooler than 10 miles inland, but not today. Hudsonville, where I work hit 97. Shop floor, according to my pyrometer, was 102.

Yikes!That is hot! Luckily, the last month in Philly has been great--in the 60's and 70's with no humidity. The end of this week is when the 90+ + humidity is supposed to start.

Today, we got lucky in Minneapolis. It only hit 81. Yesterday and the day before were 96 and over 102 heat index. Nuts for Minnesota in June. I think tomorrow we hit the 90's again. One thing many people don't know about Minnesota is that we get extremely humid up here. It's a bit surprising so far north. I always thought Dallas was humid the 28 years I lived there. Until I got back to Minnesota. Whoduthunkit?! But as my Grandma used to say, "hot is hot!"

CL, I would have never guessed it gets that humid where you are. I'll take a dry heat any day of the week.

Me too! (I don't even want to think about how a dry heat is better on my joints!) I guess you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming outta Minnesota.Altho my hubby and I have talked of, down the road, thinking of getting a place down south when and if the winters get to be too much...6 months south, 6 months north. That's waaaaaaay down the road.

I do miss the New Mexico heat without the humidity. The 6 and 6 is a great idea CL. Kind of like the Snow Birds we have in Philly.

When it's in the 90's not too bad, when it starts being 100+, then not so good. Although, I am always sad to see Summer end; I just don't care for Winter. Give me one snow day a year (if we even get that) and I'm good. I love Spring and Fall, the temps (70's-80's) and pretty colors.
I have to agree CL, the humidity makes our heat much worse, would have never have guessed it would be worse there than here. That is one thing I noticed when we went skiing in New Mexico, it didn't feel as cold as I expected, it wasn't the bone chilling cold that you get in a humid climate (it can be here, when it actually gets cold).
