Default Hubby having a health scare/crisis now.....

    Hey everyone,
I just read something recently that said "Everyone is either coming out of a trial, in a trial or about to be in a trial".
Seems like the story of my life..... just as it looks like I am almost done with my back issues, his health starts 'acting up'. He is having some weird symptoms, which all started in mid Dec. He saw our family dr. for what he thought was hemrohoids (oh the joys of aging). He was given some medication. In late Jan., he started having an increase in rectal pain. This then started to go into both the left and right sides of the colon. And eventually, his whole colon was hurting and his rectum. He saw our family dr again in early March. They did a CT scan with and without contrast. The only thing it showed was kidney stones, which at this time, they don't think are causing any pain. He was put on prevacid and told to do that for a month. It became clear a couple of weeks ago, that was not working and he scheduled an appt with a GI dr. Last Sunday, the pain became worse and he went to the ER (which says alot, hubby never goes to the dr, except when I make him once a year for his annual physical/bloodwork). They ran blood, urine and stool tests. They also gave him some anti-spasm medication and a light pain med. The words colon cancer came up and they said to see the GI dr. Up until that point, I honestly was not worried about him. I knew he was having pain and such, but cancer had never crossed my mind.

Luckily, after all my post surgery stomach issues, I had a GI dr who I liked and who ran tests aggressively (not sure if you all remember but I had a colonoscopy last year and a few pre-cancerous polyps were removed.) He saw him this past Wednesday, and was scheduled for a colonoscopy and endonoscopy on this coming Wednesday. The GI dr also said that the CT ruled out pancreatic cancer, so now looking for colon cancer. Last night, hubby started having what I guess could be described as colon and rectum spasms. He has also lost 30-35 pounds since November (and he usually gains 20 in the Winter, since he is less active with his job), he has joint pain all over, narrowing of stools, had some blood in stools, shortness of breath, fatigue, the spasms and pain in rectum and colon. I have done some research (probably scaring myself more than need be); but it all points to colon cancer. I have also looked at the IBD's and it just doesn't seem to fit, as he never has diarahea or constipation, you could literally set a clock to him.

Anyway, if you would just keep him in your prayers, I would appreciate it. He's pretty scared and worried about it too. Wednesday can't be here soon enough, and even then, there will have to biopsies and such done, depending on what they see and more waiting..... Waiting is the hardest part............

    Kathy,
I just read your thread and am so sorry that you and your husband are going through this. Waiting is the hardest part, I agree with you. I hope that his tests come back clean and I will think of your husband and hope for everything to be okay.

Hope Wednesday soon comes round & that the specialist has positive things to say to reassure you both.

(I have IBD. With me it started after a prolonged period of stress & I had pain on the left side just under my ribs especially after eating. I also had constipation).

Will be thinking of you on the day.

Thank you all for the support & prayers! Hubby is really stressing and worrying about it.... I'm trying not to; but easier said than done. Tomorrow can't get here soon enough. Hubby starting vomitting yesterday and had to come home from work.... which is not like my hubby, he works rain/shine/sickness/health/etc. It is hard to see him like this, the kids now know he is sick and my older is a worrier (hence why we didn't tell her). When we had to rush to ER last weekend, it was such a have to go right this minute thing, that I couldn't lie and say we had an appointment (I usually don't lie to my kids; but no need to worry them, until we have a definitive answer. Tomorrow can't be here soon enough. Thanks again, you all are the best!
