I can't believe I caught a severe URI

I haven't had one of these in years. I'm sure it is related to an increase in activity since surgery. I suppose it is a blessing to be out in public and exposed.

One fallacy a lot of people believe in is that they need an antibiotic. 9/10 of all upper respiratory infections are virus. Antibiotics do nothing to viruses. The only real need is to prevent the rare sequel of complications in those with heart valve disease, hx of some sort of implant or immune deficiency, COPD (lung disease), etc. It won't shorten the misery. Some older docs still perpetuate the myth to keep their patients happy.

That's Murphy's law at it's best. You have a bad back and stay home and you are otherwise healthy. Your back gets fixed so you rejoin humanity and you catch every little bug out there.

So true Justin. People want a pill to fix everything. Our parent's generation still believe you need an antibiotic to get over the common cold. Or, that you catch a cold from going outside! No, you get COLD from going outside! Especially up here in Minnesota in the winter! It is nuts. Hope you feel better Jack.
