It is always bittersweet. For a few months after my 3 got out of college, I would often cry and say, "Where have my babies gone?". However, grandchildren do come along and they make up for everything.

Alot of truth to that Kanrunmo! The grandchildren part.I've been fortunate that I never went into any kind of depression as each one left home. I really thought it would be hard with my last one, but I started preparing myself his junior, instead of his senior year of high school. It definitely helped me make the adjustment....didn't hurt that he was just across the river, but I gave him the freedom a college person deserves and never just showed up unannounced. He called periodically though and I would drive over to meet him for lunch. And I always brought him a valentine basket of goodies which really perked him up, especially when he was "girlfriend-less."
We had an awesome time yesterday celebrating his graduation! The ceremony was a little long, as usual, and I had to finally get up and move around, but well worth the final end: A Graduate!! We went afterwards to a restaurant that my daughter-in-law is the General Manager of and celebrated in a private room. Good times. He had at least 8 out of state relatives, including grandparents, aunts, and one uncle fly in from the state of Texas and Washington D.C. to help him celebrate, add his in town brothers and sister-in-laws and us and we had a nice number of 16 people, so he was most grateful and expressed his appreciation to everyone coming at dinner last night. He's a good kid.
Jobs are scarce, as we all know, so he is pretty jazzed about his summer/fall interim job that he leaves for next weekend. He is going to be a canoe outfitter way up on the Gun Flint Trail at a private resort. That's way up north in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, bordering Canada. He is a total outdoorsy kid so this will be a great job for him. He has done alot of wilderness backpacking since he was a kid. So.....good fit. We are going to rent one of the cabins at the resort in the middle of the summer, if there is still availability, and hire him as our guide for a day canoe trip. I'm not up for an overnight portaging trip. Can't wait! Relatives all leave tomorrow, so I can get back on track and then take off mid-week for the cabin for the long Memorial Day Weekend. Gotta catch that big one, doncha know!Hope everyone is enjoying the summer-like weather and having a good weekend!
