Does he have one of those Elizabethan collars on to prevent him from chewing his IV? The often get so embarrassed with them
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

My dog absolutely REFUSED to tolerate this. Poor thing kept geting herself stuck between furniture and even under the bed (how she got there, I still don't know!). The only good thing is that with gentle (and constant) reminders, she laid off her wounds!

    I hope Jack's recovery continues!

Jack is so big and strong (90lb boxer- and he is a healthy weight, not obese), that these don't work. He can bend the cone or he uses it to scratch his wounds (smart dog, huh?). We even did the collar that is like 12-18 inches long, fits snugly around his entire neck, and has metal bars that make it where he can't turn his head either way (at least that's what is supposed to do). Not Jack, he once again is strong enough to bend the metal and get to his wound.

Wow, how do you keep him away from his IV?

They had it wrapped up with one of those bandages that sticks to itself; but not to you (a compression bandage). He got it out yesterday evening and is doing a little better. His appetite is still low; but he is drinking alot (I think one of the side effects of the medication is thirst). Because of all the drinking, he is having some 'accidents' in my house at night. Luckily, we have all tile and wood, so it is easy to clean up and he usually does it on the tile.

I am not enjoying having to shove my hand down his throat (literally) to give him medication; but it must be done (he is on 3 different scripts). He doesn't fall for the medicine in cheese or food tricks, so this is the only way to get it in him.

    Thanks for your concern.

That bandage is a staple around our house I know it as Vet Wrap, and it is indispensable around the horses too, for holding their bandages.

I'm so glad that he's doing better. Yes, a few accidents are a small price to pay for having him better.
