    Default My new female internist

So, I had my "new patient appointment" with my new internist last week on Wednesday. Boy, do I really like her! So very thorough. It is an all female, all internist's practice, way closer to my new home. I wanted to get established there because I have never liked my primary care doc who I ended up with, by default, when my favorite P.A. left the practice where I went, a couple years ago. We just had no connect and she never seemed enthusiastic practicing medicine. That was always the vibe I got from her. I'm more of a complicated case as I have gotten older, with my spine issues, my pulmonary embolism history x 2, in addition to just recently....w/i the last 2 weeks, being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. That totally bummed me out, and I am sure it is a result of my lack of exercise over the past couple of years. But, she (new doc) is not going to put me on any insulin yet. I have to get my numbers down, and spring is in the air, so it will be easier to get outside and walk, ride my bike, etc. This new female internist took almost 2 hours to complete my new patient appointment. Unbelievable. She was so incredibly thorough. She especially did not like that I'm not on coumadin anymore, with my history. So she did a D-Dimer test last week. Should get results today, and if it is high she is really encouraging me to get back on it. She said something to the effect of: 2 p.e.'s, 3 times you're out, yeah? What are you thinking? I hated being on that coumadin and my hematologist, a male, was not happy when I decided to go off of it. Leave it to a woman doc to talk me back into it. Ah, the powers of persuasion the female race has! The mother in us all! Anyway, I just wanted to share how much I like her and what a difference that makes. She'll be doing my pre-op physical next month so I am glad to be getting established with her. Now I just have to get all these release of information forms filled out and mailed off, so she can have all my records. Better get on that before I lose them in this chaos of packing!

That sounds really good, is an internist a new doctor? Finding someone who is willing to take time over your care is very difficult. Sounds like she might have a point about the coumadin . My gp is really good but he has a secondment to run the local healthcare authority so its quite difficult to see him. I don't think he is going to stop practising altogether just yet. He has cared for me for 22 years!

That's great that you found someone new and like them! I don't care for my primary care dr much either... he likes to write prescriptions and usually for the latest/greatest drug, that my insurance won't pay for. Then, when I have to call and ask for something different, makes me feel like crap.
