For my husband, Joe. He was doing some manual tree watering today with buckets of water at our neighborhood pond. Long story, but the trees are newly planted, in shock, need deep watering and that part of the sprinkler system is not working. So being the green thumb, dedicated tree lover hubby is, he was filling the buckets with water out of the pond (which is on a steep slope) and carrying them to the trees.
He slipped and fell on the top (rigid) part of a full bucket. He said he heard some cracks and didn't think he was going to be able to get up. He was in tears in pain when I got home (and he isn't a crier- I do plenty of that for the both of us). I tried to get Jim to go to an after hours place and get x-rays; but he is being hard headed (men!) he said he thinks he broke some ribs, which seems likely since sneezing brought him to tears. He doesn't want to go to the doctor because "they can't do anything for broken ribs" I think he needs to make sure it is just ribs and not spine. I also think they could give him something for pain, as I hear broken ribs are super painful. I think he is going to wake up feeling like he was hit by a MAC truck and will be begging me to take him to the Dr. (it's a pattern, did the same thing when he scratched his eyeball a couple of months ago).
He also runs his own business and still participates in the day to day work. Luckily we have a few competent employees who can lead the crew. Say a prayer that this is nothing serious (don't need is two spineys in the family) and that his employees step up to the plate and fill his shoes. Thanks, Kathy

Kathy- I'm saying a prayer for your husbands quick healing.Yes if it's his ribs it can be very PAINFUL !! My Joe fell hanging off of the boat this last winter and hurt his ribs. And your right there's not a whole lot they can do.Other than wrap them tightly and give some meds. And hope they heal quickly.I sure hope he takes it easy.I think it may be a Joe thing their hard headed about resting and doctors.LOL Take care.

September 28,2010 On my 40th Birthday I recieved the gift of a new spine. My Prodisc at L4-5 and ALIF at L-5S1.
Thank you Dr.Blumenthal and Dr.Lieberman you are the BEST.
The doctor is deciding if he has to go to the ER. They are testing his urine for blood, as there is a chance he punctured a kidney (very painful in that area.) They just did x-rays and we are waiting on them to read them, though they said it is very hard to see a rib break, so may show nothing.
Caitlin- I think you are right, his dad is a Joe too and first thing his mom said is "you are hard headed just like your dad"
Gil- it's a man thing to be stubborn.
