I know where Boyd is. I grew up in Lindsay (small town, 1A school) and I'm pretty sure we used to play them in basketball and football.

We're in Flower Mound in Denton County; about 12 miles due north of DFW airport.

We make it up to Denton periodically.

Can you each describe your part of Texas? I have a vision in my mind about that huge state, but most of it revolves around that old TV show How varied is the terrain, and what is the weather like generally? And what is your favourite part of the state?

This would be a great way to get to know each others' homes. We could give a description of our favourite spots, etc. It could go on a new thread of course...sorry Kathy, this just popped into my head while reading this.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    Katie,

We have just about everything; desert, high plains, rolling plains, prairies, evergreen and deciduous forests, mountains, swamps and sea shore. However, those from up north are rarely impressed with the terrain. Because of the heat and lack of rain, trees are comparatively small and short lived compared to the same species at higher latitudes; and the western third of the state is barren (unless you like mesquite trees and tumble weeds). When we annexed the United States in 1845 we sold about half of the state to the US to pay off the debt from the Texas Revolutionary War. Imagine, most of New Mexico, the middle third of Colorado, parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming for only ten million dollars!? The Wolf Creek Ski Area alone would sell for more than that today!

The Dallas area is gentle rolling plains with about 30 inches of rain per year. Temperature gets below freezing maybe a half dozen times on an average winter. Temperature in the summer is routinely in excess of 100 Fahrenheit (38 Celsius).

I'm sure this doesn't count either K-Bear, but I lived in Texas for close to 37 years, having moved there from the north to attend UT Austin at 19. All my boys were born in Texas, two in Dallas and one in Tyler. I lived in Dallas, Tyler, Lubbock, Bedford and Grapevine during all those years. My Mom still lives in Farmers Branch. So Texas is near and dear to my heart, for sure.

JSS- We're neighbors. I worked in Flower Mound for a few years, for my brother, who is a Realtor/Broker there, you may have heard of him/seen his ads.... Joe Bixby. I still come there alot for shopping..... love Sprouts and Once Upon A Child.

Katie- We all live on Ranches, raise cattle, ride horses everywhere, wear cowboy boots, cowboy hats and dip Copenhagen..... at least that's the sterotype-LOL I seriously only know a few people who own horses. I live in a city, about 130,000 people here, 2 Universities and 1 Community College. I'm close to Dallas and Fort Worth, about 30 minutes to either place. I live in a Subdivision, houses on 1/4 acre lots, so we are all close to each other, about 500 houses in the neighborhood. It's flat where I am, you would laugh at the 'hills' in my area.... though, like JSS said, Texas landscape varies greatly.

And just about every Texan thinks we are in the Greatest State in the Union, we are one proud group of people! There is a joke that Alaska (the largest state in the union) is going to break into two states to make Texas (the 2nd largest state in the union) the 3rd largest state, to stop our bragging.
