Default Town I used to live in.. about to be direct hit by Cat 5 Cyclone!

We're sitting tight: Cardwell locals | Courier Mail

Town of about 1000 people. It's been evacuated. I think Katrina was a Cat 4. It is gonna get smashed! Massive storm surge will flood it, the winds will rip the houses apart. Crikey, I only left there a few months back! In the nick of time!

It is right next to the ocean, all flat land too. Hopefully no one is unlucky enough to lose their life or get seriously hurt. For the most part people aware so you should be right, except for dumb arse in that article who is waiting there for it to hit him.. I know that shop, it is about 50m from the ocean.. he better hope it doesn't collapse around him. Really he is off his chops..

    *me fetches popcorn*

Cyclones are a yearly occurence up that way, you'd normally tie everything down and get drunk. This is a big bugger tho. I'm sure quite a few people will lose their houses. Hopefully it's just the ultra rich retirees who keep a spare holiday house there.

The crops will get smashed. Last time a big one came through the price of bananas went up about 500%. Some farmers lost their houses and the crops, others lucked out, kept the crop and made an absolute motza. That's the game.

The very destructive winds should miss the two massive population centres north and south. They will probably just flood and get touched up. There is a lot of bs on the news about atomic bombs and stuff.. what ever. It is a big bugger tho, no doubt. The smaller towns will get smashed.

Wow, sounds like they are about to get hammered. I've never understood why people don't leave. Like what the heck are they accomplishing by staying? We were on a cruise a few years ago when Hurricane Ike struck the port we left out of. After a few extra days on the ship, the cruise line ended up dropping everyone off at a port in another state with a 'good luck' getting home. Luckily, my brother in law drove all night to be there when we got in and picked us up; because you couldn't get a rental car or hotel (all taken by people being brought in). Took several weeks before they let anyone into the city, but when they did hubby went down there thinking he could tow our vehicle to the insurance claims place, so we could get reimbursed. It was absolutely water logged disgusting, the leather had mold all over, water poured out when the door was opened. It was awful the damage done to the town.

Well most of the time you can just ride them out. It's been through now, the joint is flattened from what I've heard. That was one big arse cyclone.

I dunno, I've dodged a massive flood and a massive cyclone these past few months, think I'm doing alright.

The place is matchsticks. The storm surge ripped up parts of the highway. My elderly ex-neighbour will be ok, they evaced the joint. I haven't seen the aerial shots yet, they reckon 60 houses were severely damaged which isnt too bad considering. I'd be surprised if the joint I was staying in is still upright, all the old houses haven't been able to take the strain.

    Oh well, that's life.
