Very interesting Katie, but "what if?" I don't think the kids could live with themselves if something happened again (without food provocation). You know what I mean? Here's what the plan is at this moment: Christy's Mom, who loves Skipperke's, is going to take the dog to join her own Skipperke. They live on acreage out in the country. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, they will get the dog back in roughly a year or so. And Christy's Mom is also a very good trainer, if you will, of dog obedience. So, ideal? Of course not, because my son loves that dog to pieces, and Christy does too, of course. And you are completely right about their origional breeding characteristics for rats on boats in Belgium. They were ratters. They are also probably the smartest breed of dog I have ever been exposed to.

I did find out today that the kids did go to the er last night. Yay! So glad they listened to me. (and the nurse hotline, of course) They prescribed an antibiotic for Tully.....but of course, they got home at 3 a.m., and then Christy had to go to work this a.m., so it hasn't been filled yet.

It just exhausts me telling this whole story.

I'm so glad I'm done raising my kids.

Time to go fishing for me!

It does sound like the next to perfect solution, Cindylou.

I didn't mean to trivialize the situation with Tully, as I know she absolutely comes first. I just wanted to relate a few things to hopefully take away some of your worries. Especially as a new mom, (and Grandma ) things like that are huge, and I'm glad that it wasn't a really serious injury for little Tully.

Just you wait, my turn is coming, and you can post words of advice to me then when I am worried out of my tree about my little grandbaby
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

A bit off topic; but the grandma advice made me think of something...grandma advice. I think when the advice is coming from the right place, we as parents, take it alot better. As long as it is not mean, or telling us something we already know (like they are being rotten, throwing a fit, etc. It's like no sh*t sherlock!). I only get irritated when I get repeated unasked for advice. I have actually told my mom that you had your chance to raise your kids, now it's my turn! Not saying this is the case; but had to throw it out there.

LOL Kathy, after writing that post, I thought about how many things I wished I would have done differently.

Yes, we (grandmas or wannna be grandmas ) had our chance to raise kids. I hear you. And I was thinking the other day that I made so many mistakes when doing it. Now that I finally have half a clue about how to raise a child or two, they are gone Oh my, the things I would do differently.

I am oh so careful about giving any advice to my kids unless they ask for it, and (thankfully) they are finally starting to think that Mom has a brain

Cindylou, I am so sorry if I upset you. That certainly wasn't my intent. I guess I heard in my little brain that the dog was going to be put down, and I was hoping there would be a happy medium somehow. And yes, you are so right to be concerned with the 'what if' scenario. Stuff happens no matter how careful we might be.

OK, no more stuff! The main thing is.....How is Tully???????

Oh, no...all good stuff Katie and Kathy. And, you are soooo right Kathy on the Grandma advice. I really only offer when they ask. Christy called that night after the incident and asked me what to do...she also called her Mother too. I think on the really big stuff she is more prone to ask for my expertise. And I am honored to give it. Katie, no, no, no, I was not offended at all. I even read what you wrote to Christy on the phone last night when she called me again. She told me, in fact, they were wanting to consider some of that (your advice) but now Rodi has several times bared her teeth at Tully, so I think she has definitely crossed the line, and just maybe, don't know for sure....as I am no dog whisperer, but maybe there is no going back for her now. She is having to be hyper vigilant until they take the dog to her Mom's on Sunday. Poor Rodi....something is just way off right now....I think the active crawling really took Rodi by surprise. You know? Like she was thinking well, this baby thing is ok, cuz she doesn't go anywhere. But now, Rodi has no space for herself. I am very thankful that she has a wonderful home to go to, but I still want to talk to my son, because I know he is way sad about losing Rodi.
All good stuff you two, and I so appreciate the different perspectives.
