The big gravel trucks that are ZOOMING past our quiet little farm at sixty miles an hour.
We bought an idyllic retirement country property four years ago, and checked really carefully about any new development going on around us. Now this is a tiny village, and we are just on the other side of the street from the boundary that divides village and county/farm life. When we moved in, the quiet little dirt road ended just past our driveway, and we bought it so we could take our horses down the miles of trails. There was only one other very quiet neighbour farther down the road.
I was assured by the village planner that there were lots of other empty lots around, and that nothing would be approved until they were used up.
Six months after we moved in, the big excavators started tearing up the dead end part of the road, and put in a big subdivision a half mile above us. They lied to us!!!
While we can't see the houses yet, our road was designated the official construction road, so that the trucks and equipment wouldn't go past the only other route...the mayor's road! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
So I just went out and waved at one of the #@#* drivers and asked him to slow down, at least to the speed limit, and all I got was the finger. Next time they will have to drive OVER me!

Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
It is ticking me off that I didn't ask Dr. Bitan if he would do the surgery and then put in for reimbursement with the insurance. I had found another case identical to mine, where the patient could not get in to see a doctor in less than a year, so he went to the States and after getting turned down by our insurance, went ahead with the surgery, as he was critical...at risk of quadraplegia like me.
He then went to the appeal board and won! HE WON and was reimbursed, or his doctor was.
So what did I do??? Stupidly played by the rules and put in an application, and this time, the insurance didn't refuse me like before, they started looking for a doctor for me...ARGH!
Why am I such a goody two shoes...why didn't I just go around the system?? I would have been fixed by now, and would have won the appeal.

I'm sad that my neighbor/best friend is already distancing herself from me because she knows our house will go on the market soon. When I could really use her, she's not there.

• July 30, 2008 re-opened 28 days later to remove bone cement that had leaked onto S1 nerve root
• August 2008 Pulmonary embolism, double pneumonia, collapsed left lung, re-hospitalized 1 week
• March 10, 2009 Right SI Joint Fusion
• April 27, 2010 2nd right hip arthroscopy to remove adhesions and release psoas muscle
• September 30, 2010 lumbar facet rhizotomy
• December 9, 2010 12 bilateral lumbar trigger point and steroid injections
• December 23, 2010 12 more bilateral trigger point injections w/o steroid
• February 15, 2011 ESI bilaterally in lower lumbar...relief only for few days. Considering 1 more.

What's ticking me off right now? Stress. So far this year, stress has taken over my life.
Good Lord, did I miss anything?!?
- I was forced into having spinal fusion instead of ADR which gave me 2 additional scars that I didn't want.
- I spent double the time in the hospital than expected & had to deal with all sorts of heart palpitations that I thought would cause me to have a heart attack
- I had to put my sweet little Peanut to sleep
- I still have pain above my abdominal incision as well as the "new" pain in the lower back
- My husband's job uncertainty. He missed another round of lay offs yesterday
- Deciding to move out of state before my husband loses his job & we risk losing our house to foreclosure
- Moving over 1300 miles away & being totally unprepared for it
- Not being able to effectively deal with the sadness of leaving all that I have known behind (friends, family, home)
- Not knowing if I will be able to find a job when I move to my new house
- Not knowing how long my current house will sit on the market while trying to juggle 2 mortgages
- The idea of having to drive over 1300 miles alone with my pets & hoping that I don't wreck the car
- Not knowing if I will be able to find doctors who will accept out of state worker's comp benefits
Yeah, I'm a bit stressed. But I know I can get through this. I have my best friend, my soul mate by my side. And with him, I can get through anything!
Disc Bulge C4/C5, Disc Degeneration T11/T12, Bi-Lateral tears L5/S1, Diagnosed w/ Lumbar Disc Derangement w/ Radiculopaphy. Treatment: IDET, Percutaneous Discectomy, SI Joint Injection, Facet Block. All failed. Empire BC/BS Denied Coverage for ADR-lost all of my appeals. MVP also denied coverage.
Anterior/Posterior Fusion L5/S1 -1/20/09 - I'm not 100% but I'll take the 85%! When the weather co-operates, it's 95% woohoo!
Karin, that is a lot on your plate; but you have a great attitude and that's what matters.
31 years old- 1/06- In wreck with 18 wheeler at 25 years old; 6/06- Head on collision on Interstate, both wrecks other drivers fault. Numerous MRI's, PT, chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS therapy, massage therapy, facet injections, epidural injections, Nerve study, Discogram, confirms pain in L4/5, IDET, decompression, Bi-lateral neurotomy L3/4/5, denied by insurance twice, in Active L clinical trial, had surgery March 17, 2009 in Miami, FL- received Active L disc at 29 years old. Pain and medication free as of October 2010!Mommy to Emma- 8 years, Ava- 6 years & had baby Eli after ADR, via c-section on March 25, 2011, completely pain free still!
I hope this thread is therapeutic and I wish everyone the best--everyone's got a lot of their plate.
