LMAO about the cat's 'present' to you! I'm sure it was hilarious for others to see you talking with the bird. I'm glad you made it, take it easy and rest yourself, I'm sure hubby would rather you do that, than be in horrible pain. Best Wishes

Well, we finally made it to Florida. What a long craptastic drive that was!
I packed up my SUV with my dog in her crate, my husband's cat in his carrier, & my bird riding shotgun in his cage on the front passenger seat. Since the SUV was packed with pets, I had to have a trailer hitch installed & then haul a 4x8 trailer behind me for 1460 miles. Meanwhile, my husband's cat decides to stress himself out & use the entire carrier as his litterbox. Now, it's not like I could stop & take him out of the carrier since he is an extreme escape artist. Good Lord, I don't think I can ever get that smell out of my truck!
And while all of this joy was going on in my truck, my husband was following behind me in his car which was also packed with various belongings. I should have given him the cat to deal with!
So I'm driving down the interstate & my bird decides he wants to chat. So there was a lot of whistling & "pretty bird" talk going on. People must have thought I was nuts! I didn't care, it kept me awake.
My back did fairly well with the trip. I really didn't have much pain which was surprising to me. Had I done this trip before my fusion surgery, I would have been a complete basket case!
I did get a few very severe stabbing pains yesterday after sweeping the floor though. Severe enough that I basically cried out without thinking. My husband freaked out. It was a short lived pain but one which was extremely painful. I keep forgetting that I am only 5 1/2 months out from my fusion surgery & that I need to take it easy. My poor husband has done 95% of the packing & 100% of the loading of the POD. I feel so bad being so gimpy. I severely sprained my ankle a week before moving so I haven't been able to help him much. It's still pretty swollen right now & it's been almost 2 weeks
Anyway, we're alive & well. Our cat almost didn't make it but he's slowly coming around. Our dog is having some trouble adjusting to the new surroundings (kinda like her mommy) but hopefully she too will come around.
I have many stories about our trip but won't bore you with them. I'm just glad to finally be off the road!
Disc Bulge C4/C5, Disc Degeneration T11/T12, Bi-Lateral tears L5/S1, Diagnosed w/ Lumbar Disc Derangement w/ Radiculopaphy. Treatment: IDET, Percutaneous Discectomy, SI Joint Injection, Facet Block. All failed. Empire BC/BS Denied Coverage for ADR-lost all of my appeals. MVP also denied coverage.
Anterior/Posterior Fusion L5/S1 -1/20/09 - I'm not 100% but I'll take the 85%! When the weather co-operates, it's 95% woohoo!

Congratulations! I am still trying to forget my trip across country, about double your mileage, and having added two more cats, two dogs, two teenagers and a couple of horses behind. Talk about the ark
So I can appreciate your stress levels and love of animals by the time you got there! And I didn't have many back issues at that time. They were just starting to show their nasty heads then. I'm so pleased that you made it without much pain.
Enjoy your new home!!!

I'm glad your trip is over now, and you can settle into your new home. I hope you can rest and take it easy, without too much guilt. Just take it slow, everything does not have to be unpacked all at once.
I hope you really enjoy your new home.

Hi Nairek, Just checking in and seeing how your adventure is goingAre you settling in well? Or still surrounded in boxes?

I'm hoping the answer to Katie's question is: "still surrounded in boxes!" But I know how crazy and disorganized it feels when all the boxes are surrounding you. Bit by bit you'll claim your home. Hopefully not in a 24 hour period like I am prone to doing!![]()
