Post 2 stage spinal construction.for Khyphosis of thoracic spine

I had a anterior osteotamy where accsess to the spine was through the left side chest wall which involved the collapse of the left lung and cutting "V" Shape wedges out of the front of the thoracic spine area including the harvesting of a rib to be used in the second stage where rods and pedical screws would be used to straighten my spine and relieve pressure on my neck and base of my spine, i have already had a charite disc replacement at L4, S5,.
Unfortunately in the first stage, we had a complication due to a pleural effusion which was caused by blood loss of some 11 litres, I was transferred to ICU where i spent 15 Days, then another 6 weeks recovery in hospital then the second stage went ahead with out any complications, i was discharged after six days it is now nine weeks post second op and i am recovering as planned just a problem with muscle spasm in the trapesius muscles either side of my neck which has now nearly gone and now my neck feels a little bit stiff .
Anybody else had this surgery or complications such as mine?

    Hi Barricade UK,

Welcome to the Spine Patient Society.

Your surgery is unique one of the more "unique" ones seen here at SPS. Your pleural effusion was probably related to your surgeon(s) dropping your lung for access to your thoracic spine. It sounds like your recovery is going well. How are your pain levels currently?

Once again, welcome. By the way, it would be interesting to hear your spine history in regard to your Charite placed at L4/L5.
