    Default Hello from the UK

    Hi,

I am recovering from a spinal fusion operation in December. L5/S1 - PLIF with Wallis ligament, screws, cages, etc.

I am now off all pain meds, exercising daily (walking up hills) and feeling alot better.

    Thank you!

    Good days and bad.

I don't do very much during my day. I just sleep late, get up late and then potter about, and take the dogs out if the weather is nice. Failing that I do an hour on the Wii Fit (cycling or step aerobics).

I am taking time out from life really to get myself sorted.

I stopped all my meds a few weeks back just to see what sort of shape I am actually in. The pain seems manageable now and I just need to get my head around what has happened and how I plan to live the rest of my life.

I suppose it is all a matter of perspective really. I don't have that yet.

    Follow up?

I have seen my surgeon once (3 months post-op) and I had an x-ray which showed everything is fine and fusing. I am going to see my surgeon again 3 months' later and will probably have another x-ray I would think.

A little bit of physio but the snow has stopped me seeing her really so I just got on with things by myself.

I don't work and I think that does help. I can just potter about the house and do nothing much if I don't want to. I have no pressure to do anything which makes me less anxious and more able to do what my body wants rather than what is necessary.

Having said that, anything out of my ordinary schedule I find difficult and pushing myself both physically and mentally. I have become abit of a hermit too and I don't like going out, folk discussing me and having opinions about what happened.

Hospital was a nightmare and I am still getting my head around what happened to me there.

It will be a long haul, if only in my head.
