Just to add...we don't have the option here of paying for treatment here outside of the gov't funded system, at least not with spine surgery. That changes the scenario regarding my comments a bit, I guess.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

A friend got a knee replacement a couple years ago, and has had a lot of pain and restricted motion of the knee ever since. The surgeon who did the work told her he couldn't help her further and discharged her from his practice. She has not been able to find another surgeon in this state who will help her, because they refuse to see any patient suffering ill effects from someone else's work. So, I don't expect to receive help from anyone except the surgeon I see overseas if I develop any problems with the spine level at which I had the surgery.

I try to put this concern out of my mind, as there is nothing I can do about it, and I know the surgery is necessary. I have always had a positive attitude going into the surgeries I have had, and good results without many complications. I am hoping the same is true this time.
Diagnosed in February, 2011, with "moderately-severe to severe" stenosis at C 5-6 and C 6-7
I have nerve root compression of C-6 and C-7
Local surgeons have advised I will require a two-level ADCF at some point, but don't want to do it now because of lack of spinal cord compression symptoms.

That's the decision I made too. After all, I wasn't getting any treatment at home anyway, after five years of begging. What did I have to lose, except getting my life back? I always said I would rather be in a wheelchair and have no pain than vice versa. Thankfully I got my life back in spades.

Keep that positive attitude...it will pay off in spades.
