Yeah, it's a common misconception. MDs and DOs have the same practice rights in the United States. You've probably seen a DO at some point during your treatment. They work side-by-side with MDs in every specialty of Medicine.
In Europe, "osteopaths" are only able to practice manipulations (similar to chiropractic) and are not physicians. I think this is where a lot of the confusion lies.
