    Default New Neckie

    Hi, I'm Lavenderthistle...I'm new to the site, but not to neck pain. Sadly I've had it for many years but was too daft? stubborn? good at ignoring? (any or all of the preceeding) to really have it looked at. By the time I did it was nearly too late. My neck was a mess. It's getting better. On Oct 12, 2010 I woke up and it just wouldn't move. This had happened before but always resolved in 3 days max....I ignored it for 3 days. The pain escalated, I went to urgent care, chiropractor, GP, chiropractor, urgent care, chiropractor, GP, chiropractor, Spine Center, Therapy...(therapy made things MUCH worse!!) urgent care. Got my actual MRI disc at this point because I was a mess, went back to the urgent care guys because they are closet rheumatologists and knew they would help me understand what I thought I was seeing/reading on my MRI. It was actually worse than I understood it to be. I spent a few days moping, found another Neuro (one who could be bothered and didn't have a door stop PA telling me to "take Benadryl") New Neuro greeted me with "you're 40 but your neck sure isn't!" He actually gave me the same info I was expecting to hear (tx urgent care guys! )...my choices were simple
    You're on the road to paralysis...here are your options;

    1.) You tried therapy and it made you worse...I don't recommend it in your case it won't fix you
    2.) Do nothing and become paralyzed
    3.) Have surgery which carries less risk of paralysis than you currently have

    I had the surgery 2 weeks later due to advancing myelopathy. I have some lingering CCS from it, but that started before...Many things started before but I never knew it...oh well...that's me in a nutshell!!
    1994: sofa fell on head (don't ask) It's like a football tackle. 3 compression/wedge fractures untreated until 2011...I didn't know I'd broken it
    2010: diagnosed with spondylosis, stenosis, retrolisthesis, old fractures, hypertrophy, etc...disc herniations 2-7. ACDF 5/6/7 Feb/4/2011

    That is quite a spine story Lavenderthistle. Welcome to SPS. Can you tell me what lingering "CCS" is? Overall, are you feeling good? Are you glad you had the surgery? It sounds like it. Good luck with your continued recovery. And glad you found us! Cindylou
