I'm here to learn about new procedure and such and get advise. I had an l4-l5 fusion (Ray fusion cage) in 1998 that and PT helped me reduce my pain significantly and funtion like most people. In 2009 my pain came back and now I have severe sciatica in my left leg and heel. PT, stretching, core exercises do not help nor did several steriod injections. So I had a foraminotomy at C5 2009 but I think it's now worse. I'm looking for options and advise as I can't sit down, walk a half a mile, lift over 20 lbs or push or pull anything (grocery cart) with out making the pain an 7-9 (out of 10). I have had MRI, CT Melogram, nerve induction, xray ect.

I can only stretch about half as much as before 2009 as it aggravates the sciatic nerve. I have also tried perscription drugs - anti inflamatory, acupunture, perscription omega 3, rhus tox, colocynthis- 30, Zynflamend, st john wort, osteo bio-flex. Nothing has helped.

It seems when you have a fusion the disc above and below take abuse. I wonder if the disc above or below has become unstable? I would love to here options, procedures, doctor or clinic recomendations, thoughts, ideas, ect.

Honestly I know there is an answer I just need to find it. I'm not looking to play pro sports but would like to be able to sit, buy groceries, and play with my kids with out getting my nerve ANGRY for days.

Hello 8 ). I have an appointment on 3/ 21 for a review. I also had a friend recomend I send my case paper work and MRI to LSI in Florida as an option also??? Are there any highly recomended surgeons in the South East or mid atlantic "if" my Doc give me the "I can't see anything deal"? Not trying to be negative just more I would like options. Fun fact I saw 13 Doctors before I found one who would diagnose and help me in 1998. They all told me I was to young and there was nothing wrong with me. Finally My doc in Boston (living there at the time) was like wow your disc is destroyed see right here in this pic. I'm like WTF how did all the others not see that? It was black and sticking out.

    thank you for your help

There are a lot of great doctors in the US and overseas. Visit the travel forums and you can find recommendations as well as contact information. I would highly recommend getting multiple opinions before having any surgery.

Laser Spine Institute, who are supposedly specialists in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. They advertise like crazy, and their market is the uninformed spine patient. Back in early December, I'd filled out the form on their website, as I was curious to have someone review my MRI, etc. Someone called me to say a doctor would get in touch with me. I forwarded my MRI's via a file sending service. Two weeks later, a doctor calls to say they could definitely help me by doing a Microdiscectomy at C6-C7. In the time of our conversation, it came up that he hadn't even looked at my MRI's yet. When I asked him about what the likelihood of reherniation is, based on the fact that the remaining disc would be weakened, the disc height was already reduced, etc. Basically said "that's a good question that I don't know". Said he would check into it and get back to me. Haven't heard from them since.

wetlines, sorry that you are experiencing the pain and issues you are. This is a good place to obtain information and support. Based on my brief experience with LSI, and information available on the internet, I would say proceed with caution concerning LSI.

Auto accident 6/11/2010 caused neck and shoulder owwwwies!
Cervical - extrusion at C6-C7 and protrusion at C3-C4. Cord stenosis at C6-C7, and foraminal narrowing at C6-C7 and C3-C4. EMG = no nerve damage.
Shoulder - partial tear in supraspinatus tendon, Tendinopathy and lot's of inflammation. Some atrophy of deltoid muscle.
Chiro and PT helps. Cortisone injection in shoulder helping. Epidural Steroid Injections at C6-C7 coming soon.
