It's officially, finally. I am scheduled to have ALIF on Oct. 4th. with Dr. Dryer.
What a long road it's been. I haven't posted in a long time mostly because I had nothing to add, and I have a hard time sitting and typing.
Between the deposit they want and all the crap I need post surgery, I have no idea what we're going to do, but a lot of my research came from here, so l had to update you guys. Thanks.
I will of course, keep ya up to date, before and after.
1992 - Stress Fracture at L1, and possible other due to severe fall.
1992 - 1996 - Much PT, so much that I took a job as a APT for a while.
1996-2005ish - Spine was ok, but still could not lift, sit or stand for long, or walk far
2007-2008 - Spine much better. But then re-injured having to push someone in wheelchair.
2009-2010 - New Diagnosis - Herniated Disc L5-S1. Pain is intense. Cannot walk far, lift, cannot work. Cannot do much of anything.
2011 - ALIF Scheduled for Oct 4th.
Ryan, congratulations on having a date for surgery!
We'll be thinking about you on October 4th--please keep us posted as your date gets closer.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are proof yet again that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. No matter how impossible the situation seems, if you persevere there is often a solution. Congratulations on your strength and determination.
Just edited to add that the solution may be very different than what you first envisioned, but it can be even better in the long run.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
Ryan,
That's great news. October 4th is right around the corner!
