    Default Distraction Pain?

I am having a hard time getting a handle on exactly what this is. I did a Google search and came up with Distraction Pain this. There just isn't a lot of info out there that I can easily find. This particular site doesn't seem to jive with what people here are describing.

    What is it?
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions

LMAO... That's your selective hearing getting you in trouble, my husband suffers from that condition as well.

Jack- I read the abstract on that article and have never heard of such a thing. I always thought of distraction pain as pain that is caused from trauma to other parts during surgery. Like how my legs ached for weeks after ADR, my arm hurt (couldn't lift it above my head and I'm a lumbar patient), and stuff like that. Pain that I did not have before surgery, but was there from the stretching and trauma during surgery. I may be totally wrong, but that is my understanding of it.
    31 years old-
1/06- In wreck with 18 wheeler at 25 years old; 6/06- Head on collision on Interstate, both wrecks other drivers fault. Numerous MRI's, PT, chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS therapy, massage therapy, facet injections, epidural injections, Nerve study, Discogram, confirms pain in L4/5, IDET, decompression, Bi-lateral neurotomy L3/4/5, denied by insurance twice, in Active L clinical trial, had surgery March 17, 2009 in Miami, FL- received Active L disc at 29 years old. Pain and medication free as of October 2010!
Mommy to Emma- 8 years, Ava- 5.5 years & had baby Eli after ADR, via c-section on March 25, 2011 , completely pain free still!

Seems like you both are right. The former I notice more when my wife yells from the kitchen asking me to remind her of something that I would really like to forget. And tells me this bit during the last 10 minutes of a movie or a close ball game while she has it on here mind, saddling me with the remembering this bit for a week or so.

Your version seems to mesh better with my ideas as far as post-op pain goes. One example, I failed to point out to the nursing staff that I have bad carpel tunnel in my right hand. I had two IVs in it and one in my left. I don't know which got the three units of blood but assume it was my right. I had my hand fully flexed when I woke up and it hurt almost as bad as the surgery site. It was definitely distraction attention from my op site. I did learn if I go for more to make sure the staff knows about my wrist and the two bad disks in my neck that I'm trying to get to last until, well until I don't need 'em anymore.

    HI Jack of all trades,
i thought it was when you are walking one way for so long, like in my case it was bending over a lot. After my surgery when I tried to walk straight like you are suppose to, the pain would come because of the fact I am walking different and my body has to get used to it. Sorry if that is not correct.
