I thought this article was interesting, especially for Spine Patients with chronic non-cancer pain treated with opioids.

Agree with Justin. The patient could titrate the dose much like patient in a hospital dose with an IV pain pump.

On the other hand, I don't believe I would trust every Tom, Dick, & Harry that come thru the door wanting it. It would need to be for long term opiate tolerant patients that you could trust as I suspect there would be high demand for this on the street as a single med or mix with some street drug.

I was given a couple of Fentanyl lollipops for nerve ablation. I got them at the pharmacy and figured I had ample experience sucking on lollipops. Wrong!! I spent half an hour sucking on the wrong end of the thing. Beginning to get kind of panicky before I was told to use the other end. I finely got the right end in my mouth in the waiting room and got totally anesthetized to the point I didn't care what they were going to do with me. I heard the staff got tired of hearing me sing Bang-Bang Lulu.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions
