They need to add "killer withdrawal" to the list of negative side effects. Morphine withdrawal had nothing on Cymbalta withdrawal.... that was just plain miserable!

Wow, didn 't even know they were "considering" it. I've been on Cymbalta for depression and joint pain for 2 years now. I agree with KBear about withdrawal symptoms....if I only miss 2 days, I have horrible headaches, light sensitivity, and mood is terrible....

Cymbalta is a great medication. I wouldn't let one online post sway you from medical treatment that might ultimately benefit you. Cymbalta has been used "off-label" for pain, but now it has FDA approval to treat pain (it was originally approved as an antidepressant and also for postherpetic neuraglia).

I wouldn't not take it because of withdrawal, it was a lifesaver for me. I would still be taking it, if it was safe while pregnant. It helped tremendously with my pain and I would take it again, even knowing what I know now.

It has been the best antidepressant medicine that I've been on. Withdrawal symptoms are something that comes with almost any meds you are taking. This article was just something completely new to me. If you are weaned of the Cymbalta under dr supervision, it shouldn't be as bad.

Agreed, I did mine on my own, telling the dr as I cut my dose, and ended up weaning way too fastly (which caused more withdrawal symptoms). When I was on the Cymbalta, I was able to get off all other narcotics and medications! When I quit Cymbalta is when I had to start taking Vicodin again. I also was on a really high dose, 2 of the 60mg pills a day.

I'm just very surprised that FDA is only now considering it for pain relief...I was prescriberd Cymbalta in combination as an antidepressant and joint pain (before we realized that my joint pain was the cdulprit of my joint pain) and it has worked really well. Now I understand why some doctor's told me that Cymbalta is not for pain when I told them I was prescribed that medication for both symptoms.

Considering it has been used "off label" for some time, I would think some of the other, less expensive seritonin-norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitors that are not still under patent would be effective as well. No drug company is going to go to the expense of pushing a drug through the FDA unless they still have a patent.

Another thing, Cymbalta doesn't have introductory doses like some others to help overcome the initial break-in period of side effects. I know one doc who had people open the capsule, pore the granules onto a dish, wet the tip of their finger and role it through the granules. This gets approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the dose. Take this dose instead of the full capsule for several days to minimize start up side effects. As usual, ask your doctor before trying this.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions
